Common job for technician is installing operating system. All packs contain with all CD, CD windows xp for example, cd for photoshop, cd adobe reader and others program in separate CD. When installation job become routine I need little tool to help me for making my windows slim.

I got the answer : nlite

nlite will produce smaller file iso that ready to install to new computer, with unattended install process, no more license key,faster install mean less time.

OK nlite me a lot, my other question :

Can I use existing windows iso created by nlite ( 206 MB) spare room for other program like photoshop, winzip, winrar, pdf reader etc in that iso file.

Yes, iso modification software need to accomplish that job

Being sick, no internet access available plus no new movie to watch, my friend ask me for shell account in freebsd box. He said for education purpose, wanna learn about ssh. Why not try it in windows? thats my question after see his Acer notebook. Is it possible? he reply
I don’t know, need to ask google first.

During search, I stumble upon of cygwin plus ssh solution.
Is there any easier solution for newbie like me?

Many internet user, including me, rely on ISP to take care all things for stable and fast internet connection. Starting from conection speed aka bandwidth, phone line till dns issue.

Is there anything I can do as client to make my internet connection experience faster ?

That question make me hunting for more information with google, here’s some info’s I found:

* Disable picture / show image in browser option
* Use Opera browser (Opera motto, the fastest browser on the earth)
* Use proxy ( proxy will save static information from your favourite site in cache storage)
* Use local dns cache

I’m sure I’m still lost some valuable information for it. But it’s ok, practise more will make learn process faster too

I have Windows XP installed for my PC at home, I already disable picture, using opera and proxy. Now I’ll try to use local dns cache for my computer.

I’m lucky, I found interesting sofware for free with amazing function : “cache dns request”.

Everytime we access internet, like typing : google.com, computer will ask dns server defined in TCP/IP option for IP address.

google.com = 123.456.789.10

the number stored in ISP DNS server ( their cache ) and will be use to answer similar question for some period, e.g: 1 day, 2 days and so on.

this software will act like that too, store dns answer in local computer. So, each time dns request occur and the data exist in database this will make internet connection  faster.

A lot of changes happened in computer world, for example media for saving data.
I remember 5′ diskette for learn lotus and ws followed by 3.5′ diskette, CD era then become alternative for long time data protection.
As demand for saving larger data come we have more option : CD-RW, DVD, removeable harddisk and usb flash disk.
That storage media became small and smaller body with bigger capacity.

Storage media might grow but still can’t satisfy everyone, specially when dealt with larger file vs storage media available.
Here’s the need for file compression software. In linux/unix world there’s a few utilities exist such tar and gzip.

In windows world I list my top 5 favourite compression software :

1. Winzip (http://www.winzip.com)

Since I know windows ( windows Me ) I use winzip for compressing my task also for split file into smaller size to fit my 3.5′ diskette.
The front end easy to understand even for beginner like me
Winzip provide shareware version with same functionality as registered version. At time of writing winzip version has reach 11.1

2. Winrar (http://www.rarlab.com)

I found winrar as alternative software for winzip at internet cafe. Different icon but can handle zip file and new format .rar
winrar become important for me when I’m looking for software that able to see content of .iso file without need to burn into cd first.
Same as winrar, but more powerfull I think so

3. 7zip ( http://www.7-zip.org )

7zip has their own format .7zip beside supporting ZIP, CAB, RAR, GZIP and TAR.
Available in portable version too, which saves my time when going to some place. Put in usb flash disk and I’m ready to fight

Need for powerful version of compression software make hunting new one for our lab school. I can’t describe how this software become top 5.

This utilities becomes handy since no need to install and built in software for Windows XP Home and Professional. Save my live often when i forgot my 7zip

portable while winzip, winrar and IZArc not available at the moment.
